Is there anything better than frying up the BBQ and cooking up some delicious burgers? I, personally, highly doubt it. So, it's no surprise that I am always on the hunt for tasty meat-free burgers because I am not about to give those up! It has been wild to see the increase in big chain supermarkets such as Coles and Woolworths of vegan product. Long gone are the days where buying vegan or plant based foods were near impossible on an average income! Eating plant based could not be easier right now, and the excuse of 'It's too expensive to eat vegan' is long gone too. Example - Funky Fields Plant Based Mince. Stocked in the Meat section of Woolworths, this mince is literally a game changer. They have perfected the faux mince and made the lives of those living with meat eaters SO MUCH EASIER. Gone are the days of cooking two seperate meals, this mince is so similar to actual meat that making the change will go unnoticed by meat eaters themselves! So, I decided to give their burger patties a go. Far too often with plant based patties, they lose their shape or fall apart! But not these ones. These patties are so simple to make, hold their shape and can hold their own against any beef patty! INGREDIENTSPatties: 1 x Funky Fields Mince 1/2 White Onion, diced 1tbsp Chopped Parsley 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika 1 tsp crushed Garlic Salt and Pepper to taste Sauce: 2 Tbsp Vegan Mayonnaise 1 Tbsp Tomato Sauce 1 Tsp Pickle Juice 1/2 a pickle, finely diced Extras: Burger Buns Lettuce Tomato Red Onion Vegan Cheese METHOD Pan-fry the diced onion on low heat until soft, set aside. In a bowl, combine the mince, parsley, garlic, smoked paprika and salt and pepper. Using hands, mix well. Add cooled onions. Roll, palm sized balls of mince and place on a tray with baking paper. Once all the mince is rolled into balls, softly press the balls down with the palm of your hand. Place in the fridge for at least an hour. While the patties are cooling down (which helps them hold their shape during cooking better), create the special sauce. Combine mayo, tomato sauce and pickle juice in a bowl and mix thoroughly. throw in the diced pickles and mix. Heat a fry pan on medium heat with 1 Tbsp Olive Oil. Once the pan is hot, place burger patties on, cooking for 3-5 minutes (depending on heat) each side. Once flipped, add Vegan cheese to patties to get them melted on. Build your burger as you like, add sauce and patty and BAM you are done. Wait, it's that simple? Oh yeah it is. You can all thank me later after you've enjoyed your own Vegan Mince Patty.
