With a new year comes new resolutions. Things that we thought about doing all through the year before but never actually got around to putting into action. And it's usually about the same things, "Save more money, eat healthier, lose weight, get out of debt..." the list could go on.
Last year, I started listening to a lot of podcasts. And I have found something that most successful people have in common is rituals. Habits they have formed that impact their daily life without actually having to change much. For instance, most successful people wake up and don't look at their phone straight away, trust me this is a really hard thing to do at first! Then they have a time for meditation or pray (if you are a believer in Faith, like myself). Then they shock their system with something cold, it could be a cold shower or even just splashing water on your face. Then it's writing hour (like witching hour but for writing, first thing in the morning is meant to be when your best writing occurs). I have been writing down three things that I am grateful for each morning. It sets the tone for my day, a tone of gratitude and places my mind in a thankful state. These things listed above are not major changes that need to be implemented. They are small things that everyone can do that have a massive affect on your whole day. So that is one of my resolves, to start my days with purpose. What I have really been sensing for this year, is that there is going to be a strong focus on Wealth and Health. Both physically and spiritually. I think growing in both areas of your life is important. Too many people focus only on the physical and I strongly believe that can only get you so far. And now it's time for health. For me, my diet is pretty good - I mean it could always be better but for the main part it's fairly healthy. What I struggle with is exercise. Finding the time to do it, deciding what to do, actually doing it. It's something in the last half of the year I just really slacked off and haven't properly worked out in over 7 months. I am probably one of the best procrastinators in the world, so it's easy for me to put exercise at the back of my mind. In saying that, I really want to focus on my flexibility this year. I am determined to set aside 30 minutes a day at least for some form of exercise, which I feel is totally doable. I am trying to mix my resolutions with kicking my ass into gear and also keeping it realistic. I have so much this year that I want to achieve but also don't want to create this mountain of goals that, if I don't achieve, will make me feel bad. I think that is the most important thing to do. Have your dreams that you may think, 'wow that's crazy' and also goals that you believe are achievable. The morning rituals I mentioned at the start of this post is totally a goal that is ACHIEVABLE for everyone to do. In saying that, I cannot believe how fast this year is going already, Jan is almost over (and almost my birthday, 26 this year jeepers). Good luck with the New Year, New Me.

You've probably heard this (or even said it yourself) before, the "I am just so busy" line. Lately, I feel like everyone is 'so busy'. That being exhausted, run-off your feet and not having a second to yourself is the new in thing. Being busy has become glorified, like you've really made it if you are just non-stop.
Don't get me wrong, being busy is great, especially when you work for yourself (it usually means that you have an income coming in which is helpful) but since when did having time become uncool? Why are people so eager to become busy? To not have time to see friends or family, to get only 4 hours sleep, to be hardly home? Some times in life, being busy is unavoidable and that's ok. Sometimes it's refreshing to be busy, as they say 'idle hands are the devils playthings' but it shouldn't be your aim. My goal is to earn as much money as I can while doing as little as possible. Seem too good to be true? Possibly, but you know who I envy? People who have time to sit back and relax. People who actually have time to read books, bake yummy foods, lay in the sun without feeling guilty for taking time for themselves. Life is so short, it goes by so quickly as is, if you are constantly 'busy' you will be dead before you even realise it's over. I want to enjoy my life. To be able to take time in the day to relax. To spend hours writing, reading and just living. To have those quiet moments with family, to have a long weekend with my lover. To take my dog for a walk and not be thinking 'oh god there is something else I should be doing'. Let us not make this 'busy' lifestyle the only why we find validation in our lives and careers. Let us strive to work well, but to live better. To savour and enjoy each second we have without feeling guilty. So, this is for everyone out there feeling stressed or feeling bad for not being 'busy' enough. Breath, relax and enjoy it. So, Podcasts are like my new favourite thing! If you haven't gotten on the podcasting train you seriously need to start ASAP!
There is literally a podcast for everyone. Self-help, love, jokes, health, crime - the list goes on! So, what have I been listening to lately?? 1. The Ladygang - ok, first let me start by saying I FREAKING LOVE THESE GIRLS. I listened to 2.5 years worth of podcasts in under 3 months because every free second I had, The Ladygang was on. These chicks are the real deal. Funny, crazy, slightly bitchy but in the best way possible. They are the ultimate girl bosses and each of them brings something unique to the table! I'm actually sad that I now have to wait for each weeks upload now that I am all caught up! 2. The Skinny Confidential, Him and Her - this is fantastic because it's a real life couple showing you how to own your path and work towards a goal, together. They are unbelievably funny but always want to give their listeners 100%. Health, wellness and self-made dream jobs, these two know how to get you seriously excited to be your own boss. Lauryn taunts Michael in the most relatable way, these two are definitely couple goals! 3. The Bitch Bible - Ok, Jackie is literally my soul mate. She is crude, inappropriate and always willing to speak her mind. She covers all the Real Housewives of EVERYWHERE and speaks about her dog in a way I've never experienced before but it's all listening gold. There is actually something out there for every one to listen too. And it feels nice, actually absorbing some sort of intelligent information (sometimes) and it can be so inspiring too. Hearing stories from people around the world, who may be going through the same thing you are is really refreshing. It's like having friends...that you can't talk to and that don't know you. All I can say is - if you aren't on the Podcasting train then you really aren't living your best life. There are very few fashion labels out there that are focused on sustainable, slow fashion. We are living in a world of fast fashion, where people are convinced they need to buy a new outfit every week. And with the average Australian buying 27kg of textiles per year, and dumping 23kg of those into landfill, it's clear that the fashion industry needs to reinvent how we shop. That is why, local brands that are focusing on ethical, slow fashion are becoming so popular. Not only does it save you money, by buying clothing that is designed to last and be worn in very season but you are also helping reduce the huge amount of waste heading into landfill each year. Oh, and you actually get to feel good about buying clothes (not hiding every new purchase that you really didn't need anyway). Fern and the Wolf is a brand that is at the forefront of this concept. It all started when the creator, Jenna, decided she was sick of constantly buying clothes that didn't last or fell out of fashion quickly. She wanted to create a label that fitted into all women's lifestyles, that would last them through the years and that could easily be mixed and matched to fit into any season. She has used Australia as her inspiration. Using the coastline and red centre of this inspiring country to create her beautiful pieces. Her focus was to design clothing that is durable, sustainable for the environment and, most importantly, look great on. All the pieces are made to match or be easily matched with what you already own in your closet without breaking the bank. Is there anything more annoying than buying a piece and realising you need to go buy like four different bottoms to actually wear with it? Or buying an outfit that rips, fades, splits open after a week of wearing? Yeah, we've all been through it. But not anymore, Fern and the Wolf is going to become your staple pieces that will get you through the year. It is easy to see that this label is made with love and passion. Each piece has been made with the intention of becoming apart of real woman's lives. It is so important that we, as consumers, wake up to the environmental impact we are creating when we shop. It is so easy to make a change in our lifestyle habits, and when the change looks this good - why would you not!
