Lately I have felt super unmotivated. Not just to write but in everything. Periods in life like this really hit me hard. I feel guilty about not doing enough, I get stressed that I am never going to accomplish things. And that seems to make me lose more and more drive to start working.
I'm sure I am not the only one who feels like this? There are always other things to do. The house needs to be cleaned, the dog needs a walk, I need to go to the gym. But how important is it for us to actually make time for ourselves? Lately, I have been feeling bad for even taking a moment out of my day to read a book. And I love reading!! Why is it that doing something for ourselves can make us feel so bad? I have just been hit by the flu, and it hit me hard. I can't even remember the last time I felt this sick, but yesterday, as I lay in bed feeling like poo I couldn't help but feel slightly guilty. Guilty that I wasn't working, or writing or doing something productive with my day. Even though my eyes wouldn't stop watering, my nose wouldn't stop running and between the fever my head wouldn't stop pounding; I still felt bad? Sometimes I feel like, as humans, we purposely try to self-destruct. It is so easy for us to put ourselves down. To tell ourselves that we can't do something. Imagine if we used all those thoughts to build ourselves up? To be self motivated, to remind ourselves that we are allowed to take a break and indulge sometimes? So, I am determined to stop being so hard on myself and to start rewarding myself.I feel like I feel so bad for not doing more that I end up doing even less, if that makes any sense at all. So, below are some things that might help you rejuvenate yourself. 1. Take time in the mornings. Wake up 20 minutes earlier so you can sit with a cup of tea, read some of a book or even just enjoy your time in the shower - stop rushing all the time. 2. Get a diary. When I have things written out in front of me it's a lot easier to accomplish things. 3. Say no. It is ok to say no at times, we can't do it all and there is no worse feeling than saying yes to something you know you probably can't do. 4. Go for walks. Honestly, starting my day with a walk really helps my mind wake up and makes me feel like I have already accomplished something, usually before most people wake up. 5. Naps. They are good. And some times they are really needed. It's say all the time but really we must listen to our body. If you are feeling run down, take a step back and relax. So, to being proactive while not making myself feel bad for not being able to do EVERYTHING. As much as I would like to be able too.

Last Thursday night we were lucky enough to be given tickets to the Messina Creative Department's 7 course Degustation. It was in the epic South Brisbane store, which if you haven't been to yet you definitely need to head there asap (like now, stop what you are doing and GO!). The evening consisted of 7 courses of desert, six of which were paired with a specially made nectar style drink. The degustation is only for 12 people at a time and you are seated around communal tables, creating a very home-y feel. The food was prepped in the same room, with an explanation of each dish and the paired drink as it is set out in front of you. There was a strong focus on native ingredients and seasonal produce. Shane and I are not massive desert people. It is very unlikely that we would ever order a desert after a meal out and at home my idea of a sweet treat is a cup of tea before bed. So, we were a little nervous going in as all I could picture was rich chocolates and a serve stomach-ache at the end. But, this was perfect! There was only one really decadent dish, the others were light, sweet and savoury. My absolute favourite was the Ravioli paired with parsley sorbet... sounds horrid but it was honestly to die for! With gourmet meals like this, Shane and I always freak out about leaving still hungry and had already planned to head to the closest drive-thru once we were done but I can honestly say that we left surprisingly full. The whole meal takes about two hours and, although the dishes are small, they are extremely fulling. If you are keen for a night that is a little different, I highly recommend booking a ticket to one of these.
You'll be so surprised at what you can put with ice-cream (like parsley). To find out when this Degustation will be in your city visit http://www.gelatomessina.com/au/creativedepartment Tickets cost $130 p/p |
