You've probably heard this (or even said it yourself) before, the "I am just so busy" line. Lately, I feel like everyone is 'so busy'. That being exhausted, run-off your feet and not having a second to yourself is the new in thing. Being busy has become glorified, like you've really made it if you are just non-stop.
Don't get me wrong, being busy is great, especially when you work for yourself (it usually means that you have an income coming in which is helpful) but since when did having time become uncool? Why are people so eager to become busy? To not have time to see friends or family, to get only 4 hours sleep, to be hardly home? Some times in life, being busy is unavoidable and that's ok. Sometimes it's refreshing to be busy, as they say 'idle hands are the devils playthings' but it shouldn't be your aim. My goal is to earn as much money as I can while doing as little as possible. Seem too good to be true? Possibly, but you know who I envy? People who have time to sit back and relax. People who actually have time to read books, bake yummy foods, lay in the sun without feeling guilty for taking time for themselves. Life is so short, it goes by so quickly as is, if you are constantly 'busy' you will be dead before you even realise it's over. I want to enjoy my life. To be able to take time in the day to relax. To spend hours writing, reading and just living. To have those quiet moments with family, to have a long weekend with my lover. To take my dog for a walk and not be thinking 'oh god there is something else I should be doing'. Let us not make this 'busy' lifestyle the only why we find validation in our lives and careers. Let us strive to work well, but to live better. To savour and enjoy each second we have without feeling guilty. So, this is for everyone out there feeling stressed or feeling bad for not being 'busy' enough. Breath, relax and enjoy it.
